NOOSA commuters stand to gain with the push for fast rail to the Sunshine Coast from Brisbane.

TRADERS and Marion Council have renewed their calls for the State Government to fund a $110 million overpass at the Oaklands Park rail crossing, saying the intersection's already chronic congestion will worsen once the Noarlunga line reopens.

They say more trains on the line will cause longer delays at the bottleneck once the electrified trains start plying the line in September.

The Transport Department has drawn up artists' impressions of the multi-million dollar rail overpass but has not committed any funding to build it.

For air travellers, Sydney's second airport has been a long time coming. But devotees of train travel have been waiting almost as long for high speed rail - and they're still waiting.

Both projects have seemed at times to be the impossible dream of anyone hoping for faster, more efficient journeys around the nation's major cities. So has Badgerys Creek airport finally killed off hopes of a very fast train project becoming a reality?

MOUNT Alexander Shire Council will again push for improved train connections from Castlemaine to Bendigo and Melbourne.

Council says it will soon raise concerns over the reliability of services with Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan.
